These delightful bites are not only packed with flavor but also incredibly easy to prepare, making them ideal for dinner parties, a movie night, or just because you’re craving something tasty!

The Perfect Ingredients

To create these scrumptious sweet potato skins, you'll need a handful of simple yet flavorful ingredients:

  • 6-8 Sweet potatoes

  • 1 cup Brown sugar

  • 1/2 stick Unsalted butter

  • 2 tablespoons of Maple Syrup

  • 1/2 tablespoon Salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon clove powder

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon, additional for topping as well.

  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract

  • 1 teaspoon Ground Black Pepper

  • Mini marshmallows

  • Thick-cut bacon

  • Mixed nuts

  • Honey

Prep Work

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees fahrenheit!

Lay the amount of bacon you desire on a baking sheet, top with brown sugar and ground black pepper (to taste) and place in the oven for 15 minutes. Once finished, allow the bacon to cool for 15 minutes and chop the bacon into bits to your desired size.

Now that you’ve gathered your ingredients, let’s dive into the steps for making these sweet potato skins. First, wash your sweet potatoes thoroughly, then poke holes in them with a fork. Place all the potatoes in the microwave for 10 minutes. Flipping after 5 minutes.

Once the sweet potatoes are cool enough to handle, cut them in half lengthwise and scoop out some of the flesh, leaving about a quarter-inch of potato. This will create enough space for your delicious toppings!

In a separate bowl, combine the sweet potato scoopings with 1/4 cup of brown sugar, 1/2 stick of butter, 1 table spoon of maple syrup, vanilla extract, toss in some mini marshmallows, nutmeg, clove, cinnamon, and salt to taste. Mix until combined well.

Next, use the filling we just mixed to fill the empty sweet potato boats. Top each boat with a sprinkle of brown sugar and pop them into a 400 degree oven for 20 minutes.

While you wait for your skins to finish baking, mix your nuts with a tablespoon of maple syrup and toss them around in some brown sugar. These will be used as a topping.

When your skins are 5 minutes away from being finished, open the oven and place some mini marshmallows on the top of each boat to give it that finished look. Once you pop the skins out of the oven, allow them to cool for 8 minutes.

Serving and Enjoying

These sweet and savory bites can be served plain or dressed up with optional toppings that you prepared (bacon, nuts, honey, maple syrup, cinnamon) They’re perfect for sharing or just enjoying on your own!

In conclusion, sweet potato skins are a fun and tasty twist on a classic appetizer. The combination of flavors is simply irresistible. Whether you're hosting a get-together or just craving something special, these delightful treats will surely impress. Give them a try!
